Blue Whale
There are varied subspecies that can be found in all oceans of the world. This is an animal of enormous dimensions, roughly about 25 metres long. About the year 1930, have been found copies of up to 33 metres long, but now are no longer whales of this size, owing to the intervention of man.

The whales are distinguished by their dorsal fins, make it possible to identify each one. They are very long-lived animals, reaching up to 90 years of life, but due to the hunting of man, only live an average of 25 years.

If necessary, reach a speed 30 to 40 km / h, although in normal situations move less than 10 km / h. Sometimes, you can watch the younger do piruetas and jump out of the water. It dipped to 150 meters deep and may be under water for 30 minutes without moving off to the surface.

The blue whales feed on crustaceans, sardines, anchovies and herring, according to the geographic area to which they belong. They need to eat about three tons of food and often go to look up to 100 meters deep. They do not have teeth and filter water to get food and some have beards, which retain the food and leave out the seawater. These can reach measuring about 50 cm wide and about 100 long, represents the Baleno with the longest beards.

They are usually found alone or in pairs, but in the fall mating season, even females come together during breeding. After 5 years of age reach sexual maturity. Its links to happen soon, however is a courtship ritual, the males compete for females but without reaching a fight deadly. Studies reveal that the female decides how to stay on his male courtship and their chants.

The ballenato, breeding whale, has a gestation period of between 10 and 11 months. Born with approximately 7 meters long and about 3 tons of weight. You will need to provide him with the mother milk for 3 months. Until last about two years after birth the female does not once again become sexually active.

The morphology of the blue whale, is characterized by its greyish blue at the top and side. His head is elongated and thin, large, represents nearly one third of its total length. In his throat there are few longitudinal stripes.

Sometimes we can see that the belly of the animal takes a color between yellow and grey, this is due to algae that adhuieren him. The Avent, are the holes at the top of his head, through which expel the air and water, the water outlet can reach nearly 9 meters high.

At the moment is not known with certainty that the function performed songs emitted by whales, but the idea is that more sustained as a means of communication between them. The blue whale, delivers an especially slow and monotonous chant that can be heard from about 4000 km.
